Dr. David Vroonland

Mesquite ISD Superintendent of Schools

An educator for more than 34 years, Dr. David Vroonland has been Mesquite ISD’s Superintendent of Schools since 2015. In his current role, Dr. Vroonland’s leadership has been so impactful that he’s won numerous awards, including Region 10’s Superintendent of the Year, the Association of Texas Professional Educators’ Administrator of the Year, and the Texas Educational Support Staff Association Administrator of the Year.

Dr. V—as he’s commonly called—showcases his thought leadership through implementing innovative programs. These include MISD’s ReadPlayTalk early reading initiative, revamping board accreditation of schools with MISD’s community-based accountability system, or launching a first-in-the-nation Excellence in Teaching Incentive Program (ETIP) that empowers, develops, and financially rewards teachers.

Most recently, Dr. V and Mesquite ISD joined forces with Google and SoftServe to launch AYO. Using technology to create individualized student learning paths based on passions and aptitudes, AYO seeks to transform education.
