Focus on Data Foundations to Successfully Deploy Gen AI

Organizations that want to successfully deploy Generative AI in their business should first focus on their data foundations, says SoftServe UK GM and VP of Sales Alex Joyner. But, in a video interview with the London Stock Exchange’s “Marketplace Matters” platform, Joyner also said businesses are now getting serious about Gen AI after all the hype surrounding this new technology last year.

We are seeing customers moving into a year of production after a year of tests. A lot of the proofs of concept that we worked on last year never made it into production. But now firms are restarting AI projects and narrowing down the value Gen AI can bring to their business.

New initiatives

They are now restarting those AI initiatives with a focus on the value it can deliver. The use of AI is changing the way we interact with information and not only helps businesses leverage large sets of data to get more answers, but also improves the accuracy of that information and its use to the business.
He acknowledged that some people rightly have concerns about AI, particularly in areas like misinformation, accountability, and security. But said that firms like SoftServe are working with governments and regulators to ensure safety standards that can mitigate those risks.

Joyner had one specific word of advice for those firms considering embarking on a Gen AI journey:

Focus on the data foundations and the governance around the data. Before you start, you should manage those foundations and structure of the data if you want to get the most out of Gen AI.

He said SoftServe works with many of the leaders in AI, such as Microsoft, NVIDIA, AWS, and Google to “bring together their technologies for customers using our high skillsets.” He added, “We are not there to advise them on the future of their business, but rather to understand the challenges they are trying to solve and how to better use the right technologies to enable them to drive forward and scale.”

Joyner said SoftServe uses Gen AI to ensure companies “become technology enabled, instead of technology limited.” He stressed that AI and Gen AI are here to stay, adding that “We can help companies deploy it to solve complex business challenges.”
