Unlocking the power of Gen AI starts with clear business-value use cases

Generative AI (Gen AI) has been the buzzword since early 2023, with everyone promising heaven and the moon to transform business operations across various industries. Yet, despite its blissful potential, many enterprises find themselves dealing with the complexities of scaling from proof of value to production.

For many, finding where and how to get the most value from Gen AI has proven more elusive than expected.

We recently commissioned Forrester Consulting to conduct a global study on the real-world state of Gen AI. The data revealed many things. But one thing is clear: There’s a significant gap between executive expectations and actual outcomes.

For example, the study revealed that while more than 80% of respondents expect the importance of Gen AI to increase over the next 12 months, barely one in five (22%) said they’ve unlocked Gen AI’s value across their organization today.

In our work with clients, we find that the overwhelming challenge isn’t so much the technology itself, but a critical need for well-defined business use cases that are quickly proven, prototyped, and put into production. En route, there are several hurdles to jump on the way to success.

To achieve success, we partner with our clients to find the most promising use cases, provide a picture of what an end-state will be, and combine that with a pragmatic, actionable path to get there. This approach helps them realize the value of Gen AI.

Business use cases that matter

The key to unlocking Gen AI's full potential lies in its application to specific business scenarios. Here are just a few examples that shed light on how targeted business use cases drive substantial Gen AI business value.

ServiceTrade's approach

The study states that only 42% of organizations train Gen AI models on their own data — a critical capability for maximizing value. ServiceTrade's implementation of retrieval augmented generation (RAG), using Amazon Bedrock to efficiently summarize equipment service history and extract maintenance schedules, shows how applying enterprise data significantly improves operational efficiency. This aligns with the Forrester Consulting study's emphasis on data readiness and highlights how organizations will unlock Gen AI value by effectively using their own data.

Luminoso's approach

According to the study, organizations that successfully unlock Gen AI value across their business see quicker benefits in areas like customer engagement. Luminoso's approach exemplifies this. The company’s Gen AI-powered platform, enabling Fortune 500 clients to better understand sentiments and engage with their customers, offers real-time insights in less time.

Continental's approach

The Forrester Consulting study also found that 88% of organizations need partners with an understanding of their market and specific use cases. Continental's development of virtual factory solutions, in collaboration with SoftServe, displays the transformative impact of Gen AI when applied to specific industry challenges. Continental's ContiVerse and SoftServe’s Industrial Co-Pilot address unique challenges in the automotive industry, such as shorter development cycles and increased time-to-market pressures. This proves how tailored Gen AI applications drive significant business value.

Conclusion

If 2023 was the year of Gen AI experimentation, 2024 is the year of production-scale deployments. But we recognize every client is at a different stage on their Gen AI journey. Regardless of the stage, the acceleration of that journey inspires success.

In the end, it all comes down to three words: production, production, production.

Yes, there are underlying structural elements for success, such as data readiness, skills development, governance plans, and even service providers to speed discovery and deployment. But there’s Gen AI business value to be had, and we will show you how to find it.
