LVIV, Ukraine (June 19, 2024) - A free learning course, “Database Fundamentals,” is starting for Ukrainian veterans, defenders serving in the army, and their family members. The course is launched within the global “EmpowerU” program by SoftServe in collaboration with two partners: the recruitment agency Lobby X and the Ukrainian Veterans’ Fund under the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine.

The course will begin on July 9 and will last for eight weeks. During this time, participants will gain basic knowledge about working in IT. They will learn to design and manage databases, understand basic data types, and prepare for professional interviews with support from Lobby X specialists. The course includes access to additional learning resources, a community of like-minded people, soft skills development, and mentors’ support.

“We have been helping people interested in building tech careers to gain the necessary knowledge for 19 years, since the establishment of SoftServe Academy. Recently, we have seen a growing demand for learning database basics. This is an excellent starting point for many other technologies and areas, including web application development, QA, cybersecurity, and machine learning. Our aim is to prepare participants for IT specializations, so they can continue their career paths. Our partners share this goal, making this collaboration beneficial and valuable for participants,” comments Maria Kucherenko, Corporate Reputation and CSR Director at SoftServe.

“This is already the fifth program supported by the Ukrainian Veterans’ Fund, providing veterans and their families with comprehensive learning and employment opportunities. It is one of the important stages of transitioning to civilian life for our defenders. It is also a support for veterans’ families looking for new opportunities for self-realization. Additionally, the skills gained in the IT field can be used to strengthen the country’s defense,” says Ruslana Velychko-Tryfoniuk, Acting Executive Director of the Ukrainian Veterans’ Fund.

“In our time, lifelong learning has become the norm. Technologies are developing rapidly and affecting all sectors of the economy. Therefore, mastering IT tools not only allows people to improve their qualifications, but also to try out new professions. As a recruitment agency and employment platform, Lobby X fully supports training and retraining initiatives. We create opportunities for career development and the realization of the potential of Ukrainians in Ukraine,” says Olha Bandrivska, Head of the Military Department at Lobby X.

Experienced SoftServe mentors will provide lectures twice a week. The course consists of theoretical fundamentals, practical tasks and homework. All lessons will be recorded. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate.

This is the third course implemented within SoftServe’s global EmpowerU program in Ukraine. The initiative started in April 2023 and covers Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Mexico, and Colombia. The main goal of EmpowerU is to provide equal opportunities for everyone who wants to learn and dreams of a career in IT.
